I would like you to read two short stories by Science Fiction writer R. Bradbury about the role of technology and science in the world, society and interpersonal relationships. Please look for the stories, called Marionettes Inc. and the Veldt in the web-I'm attaching the links- and read them (very carefully) for Tuesday 16th. We'll be talking about them in class. I hope you enjoy them!
Regards,
Mariana
Dear all,
Thank you all for the work you are sending me. I have already started reading your essays and I'm afraid many of them are way too short to make the speeches for your debates! As regards the work on Laser, many of you have asked whether you had to send that as well, and the answer is "please, do!" Also remember to do the activity I posted on reported speech and please read the short story I am posting today for next Tuesday (16Th). Hope you are all well, rested and looking forward to starting again!
Kind regards,
Mariana

Dear all,
I hope this note finds you all very well and healthy, and not yet bored to death! Let's try and make the most of this time, which might actually prove very interesting to discuss later on in class. I hope you profit from our virtual classroom and do your best to keep up with deadlines.

Firstly, I would like you to finish off the argumentative essay on sports that we started working on some time ago. If you remember, in class you brainstormed ideas and even started writing some of them down. We also discussed the stucture of each paragraph and that of the whole essay. What I would like you to do now is write it down at home and share it with your partener/s via email, messanger, etc, so that we can still work "in pairs" or "in groups." The deadline for you to send me your essays is Tuesday 9th 12 pm, and I would like each of you to send me a copy (even if your partener has sent one on your behalf). Then I'll do my best to correct as soon as possible and send the essay back to you so that you can keep working on it.

Moreover, we must go on working on our dear old Laser book. As you must remember, last week we started working on Unit 8 "Communication" and we did the comprehension of the first and second texts. Now I would like you to focus on the grammar and vocabulary sections. The first one is devoted to the revision of reported speech and the second grammar point is related to reporting verbs, which we started dealing with a couple of weeks ago. As regards vocabulary, I would like you to do all the section devoted to that. All this work must be done by Wednesday, June 10th.
I will be sending you further activities regarding the new language topics and also a short story for you to read and work on.

You must send me all your work and comments to my gmail address (marianvanhoutte¬~gmail.com) I hope, as I said, that you do your best to meet the deadlines and learn as much as possible in a different kind of classroom.

Kind regards,
Mariana.
